Where has Time Gone and SB1070

I have to say I'm amazed at what's gone on in the past year - Obama has been a hero and a whipping post. The Dem's and Repug's have done absolutely nothing to advance our nation, our standing or our political system... although we have some type of health care in place; just wondering could maybe we get the same health care that our Representatives get? Would that be asking to much?

McCain has continued to reinvent himself, not the once loved maverick of Arizona but now just another puke politician that wants to fence us in... literally - have you seen the latest commercial from him? "Send troops and complete the darned fence..." Really John? Jesus, I thought we were founded on freedom and now you're wanting to fence us in and everyone else out... John, where are you from ... better yet, where have you gone?

SB1070 - oh sweet Jesus - I don't even know where to begin on this one. I will tell you that I'm so disappointed in the State of Arizona and it's politicians that moving out of here is a viable option. When right wing zelots like State Sen. R. Pearce "The Man Behind Arizona's Toughest Immigrant Laws", NPR 03/08, get their way and their way becomes law... I MUST question the sensability and direction of the place I call home. There's noise going around the net that this bill along with some of Brewer's previous stunts with voter registration during the Presidential election are all linked together. Seems that the Repugs are a bit nervous about the size of the Hispanic voting populus in Arizona... very strange strategy if you're trying to get their vote... Just saying.

Remember, and I know it's been a while ... but "You have been given a voice, use it. Go out and SCREAM! about something you care about."
Peace.

Nadya Suleman... Your 15 Minutes are Up

All the talking heads of the world are bitching and complaining about the OctaMom, , they can't believe that her story is still alive. The mainstream media is outraged (the best they can be) that is still getting attention. Not from them, of course, but from the producers of , the tabloids and all the other rag mags out there.

Today, on the today show made a comment when NBC was running a story about the new supposed million dollar deal that Nadya has made; the comment was something along the lines of "this is a long 15 minutes..." no shit Sherlock but it's long because you clowns keep running her damned story. It doesn't matter if it's about the discussion between her and her mother or the nose job or some of the litter coming home from the hospital... you keep running the story - give it up already. OH! and get this... the lead in question... Is Nadya addicted to pregnancy? WTF!! Who the hell cares! That crap just chaps my backside...

Question for everyone; when was the last time that NBC or any station ran a story on the global issue of clean water, Somalian poverty crisis, , economic impacts to Mexico's border towns and the rise in violence because of it? When? When was the last time that any station ran a story on how unemployment benefits haven't increased in 20 years in some parts of our own country? When? We all hear about the poor rich SOB's but when have we heard about the real issues?

and finally, just a tidbit to chew on: I was talking to a friend of mine that was recently laid off directly because of the economy. He told me that he had received his first benefit deposit... the amount... 240.00 before taxes - 214.00 after!!! WTF!!! are you serious... Look..., not for nothing but 24 years ago when I was discharged from the service I decided to take a month or two off before I went in to the "real" world and I filed for unemployment benefits; guess what my benefit was..... yep $240.00!! I was pissed then, my God, I can't imagine what I would do now trying to live off of a total of 960.00 a month (before taxes) and feed my family, pay my mortgage or even rent for that matter, electric... good God - this is the help that we are given from our Department of Economic Security!! What I really want to know is who's economic security is it anyway...

Nadya... I hope you get your deal - not for your sake but for the sake of your children. I hope that whoever draws up your contract has stipulations dictating that a percentage of your deal goes into a trust fund for your children.

Okay, I'm done... Have a great day!

Speeding Through The School Zone

My recent post on Photo-radar in the valley has me thinking that the state is misusing the and equipment that they have available. Not misusing in the sense that there shouldn't be , if the result is drivers slow down to somewhere near the posted speed and it reduces accidents then so-be-it.

I'm thinking that it is being misused through incorrect placement--why not use it in ? I live a block away from a school zone that is placed on a very busy road. The posted speed limit during non-school hours is 45mph, the average speed I would bet is 55 or 60mph.

When the lights are flashing in the drivers are required to slow to 35mph. I would bet that nearly 80% don't. I would also venture to say that the average speed doesn't change very much from when the lights aren't flashing.

We've taken security at school to all new levels from the time I was attending. Now our schools are fenced, gated and many are policed. All for the safety and security of the student body. Why don't we take the next step and protect the kids on their way to school? Put photo-radar up in every school zone that is intersected by a road with a posted speed limit of greater than 35mph. Costly, sure--but based on the habits of drivers on the freeway I would suggest that it will pay for itself in short order.

The cost for speeding and getting caught by photo-radar is $180.00. Why not make it double that if your picture is snapped exceeding the school zone speed limit of 35?

Just a thought.

Smile You're on Photo-Radar

Over the past several years Arizona has implemented stationary photo-radar (speed cameras) along the Freeways in and around the Phoenix metro area. Recently the state began a new wave of fixed cameras and one stretch of road, the loop 101, has been particularly notorious for speeders (many clocked at more than 100 mph) and quickly became the states target for the new influx of cameras.

The state began putting the new cameras in operation in September and valley drivers have wasted no time in helping DPS test the system. A recent news report states that Arizona drivers have activated the cameras 166,176 times since September.

Not every one of the 166,176 activations has resulted in a ticket but there have been over 40,400 that did. Not a bad revenue stream as the tickets would add up to $6.6 million if all the violators pay up.

Nearly 60 cameras are in currently in use, of those, 40 are mounted on vehicles and 20 are at fixed locations along Valley freeways with an additional 12 stationary cameras by the end of the year in the metro area.

The old fashioned speed trap has gone by the wayside, oh how some of the drivers long for the days of black and white police cars hiding in the bushes at the edge of town... at least then, they may have stood a chance.

Remember to smile, the cameras take a picture of you and your license plate, and wave to the camera.

8 Year Old Murder Suspect: Update

Apache County Courthouse Arizona

Normally I would wait and publish this on Wednesday for my Arizona topic but given the interest in this case here's what we know currently about the boy accused of the murders in St. Johns, Arizona.

John Andreas, a Romans family spokesperson, says St. Johns detectives told them an 8-year-old fired 10 times during the shooting that claimed the lives of Vincent Romero, 29, and Tim Romans, 39, on November 6. St. Johns Police say they can’t confirm how many shots they think the 8-year-old fired due to a gag order.

Several news agencies are reporting that the St. Johns Police believe the murder weapon was a single shot .22-caliber rifle, meaning that if Mr. Andreas is correctly reporting what the detectives told him, the boy would have had to of reloaded the rifle after every shot.

    - Somehow I am at odds to actually believe that an 8 year old boy is going to fire - hit - see the person get hit - reload and repeat this 10 seperate times. I just have an incredibly hard time rationalizing this in my own mind. 10 Times - I can't see it happening.

On top of it, it seems to me that the boy would have to had hit his target each and every time to the point of the victim becoming immobile - right? I mean, if I was shot and not immobilized I would certainly do everything in my power to get to the shooter and take the damned gun away - with, I'm sure, the intent to turn it on them in one fashion or another - so does this make sense?

    I'm curious... was it...

    • A) Not a single shot rifle or
    • B) the boy didn't fire 10 times or
    • C)The boy didn't do it.

A Wednesday Judge Michael Roca ruling will allow the boy to spend Thanksgiving at home with his mother. During a court hearing Judge Rosa told the boy's mother, "You're on the hook. If he doesn't make it back there's going to be a warrant for him and for you."

And finally; Over the weekend St. John's prosecutors moved to dismiss one of two murder charges against the boy according to the AP Apache County Attorney Criss Candelaria filed a one-paragraph motion in juvenile court to drop the murder charge accusing the boy of killing his father. The motion gave no reason for the request, saying only that "the state believes the interest of justice will be served by such a dismissal."

The motion broadened the mystery surrounding the case.

Arizona; Anti-Gay or Just Misinformed?

It's been a while since I last spoke about Arizona Proposition 102 and it's defeat. I personally think this is a manifestation of insanity running rampent within my great state. A bit of hid and seek with the truth that was played by some groups that believe fear is the manner in which the continued debate over "equal rights" should be settled.

A of a modern day duel with words cleverly disguised as morality.

I offer the following West Wing clip as food for thought.

Senator John Huppenthal's Misdemeanor Charges to be Handled by Scottsdale City Prosecutor

Update: Chandler City Attorney has handed Senator John Huppenthal's misdemeanor charges over to the Scottsdale city prosecutor to avoid any conflict. Chandler officials stated that a conflict exists because state Senator John Huppenthal was once a Chandler city councilman and part of his legislative district falls in Chandler.

The Chandler police want Huppenthal prosecuted on misdemeanor counts of tampering and theft of a political sign on Election Day. I would guess that's why we have a system - it weeds out that he-said-she-said crap and most of the time gets to the bottom of the stink barrel.

Huppenthal, sorry you were pissed about the sign, but really, I hope this isn't the type of judgment you're accustom to using when deciding really important issues. Like, do I break the law or not.

Remember go out and SCREAM! about something important to you. Add your voice, you've been given one for a reason.

Arizona State Sen. John Huppenthal's end the Lies Strategy

Huppenthal-what-were-you-thinking?!Chandler, AZ, November 12th, 2008.

Chandler police announced that they will recommend filing charges against Senator John Huppenthal for misdemeanor counts of theft and tampering with a political sign on Election Day.

John, did we have a momentary lapse of reason? What possibly could you have been thinking? I know it wasn't "Now this will be good P.R.".

A Chandler police spokesman said the investigation is complete and a police report will be submitted to city prosecutors within the next few days. It is up to the city prosecutors to decide whether to file charges against the 16-year state lawmaker.

A 78-year-old Democratic volunteer accused the senator of yanking the sign from her hands - watch her video - She's 78. She uses a Walker... Huppenthal what were you thinking? Her full interview can be seen here. My advice to the Senator, don't screw with old people and... damn, you should have known better than to screw with an old Democrat on this election day!

Huppenthal, who represents an area that includes west Chandler and parts of Ahwatukee Foothills and Tempe, said the sign contained a lie about his involvement in solving air quality issues at Corona del Sol High School in Tempe.

Senator, really, a lie? Oh My! Now we can't have that can we? So what are we to do... Yes, I guess you're right, let's go around ripping things up, tearing things down, destroying property that isn't ours, breaking laws just so we can show those damned people who lie.

Can I get three cheers? Hyp-Hyp-O-crit! Hyp-Hyp-O-crit! Hyp-Hyp-O-crit!

Huppenthal stated that he was following the law pertaining to political signs.

The LAW states: No one can remove political signs 45 days before an election or seven days after except for the candidate to whom the sign belongs or the property owner if the sign is placed on private property, or if the sign is placed in violation of the law.

Huppenthal stated that he had left the sign beside a trash bin in the apartment complex for it to be easily found by the owner... Case Closed

iReport - Arizona Voter Turnout

Whiteline... the newest iReporter? I doubt that it's the newest but I'm having fun with it anyway ;)

places opened at 6:00 a.m. today. My son had hockey practice at 5:00 so the obvious thing to do was stop and vote on the way home. We left the Hockey Rink shortly after the polls opened and arrived at our location within 30 minutes of it opening. The was already 70 deep and with kids to get ready for school, lunches to prepare, and buses to catch, voting would need to wait.

By 7:55 a.m. all the kids were well on their way and it was back to my polling place. The line had reduced to 5 deep and the volunteers were doing an outstanding job. My wait was 10 minutes at the longest.

Not all polling places in the state are operating this smoothly I just happened to catch the right time in between people needing to be at work and the next wave of voters.

Local TV reports show lines at several polling places and are reporting waits of 2 hours or more. This may have been what I would have experienced had I stayed at 6:30.

My vote was cast in this most historic election at 8:15 a.m. officially ending my season of "SCREAMING at the TV! - get the vote out", but this Grumpy old man will continue his rants on Results for Arizona's key Propositions and the.

Circuit City Closes Operations In Phoenix Market

Circuit City to close the . After hearing this was a possibility on the news last night, adding Circuit City to a growing list of stores leaving Arizona, I had to see what I could find. After looking at the Circuit City website I found it's true. All stores in the Phoenix Market will be closed. Our economy continues to suffer.

Circuit City is closing stores in 55 markets with the retailer eliminating 17% of its workforce.

The good news, if you can consider another store closure good, is the sale starts Wednesday the 5th of November.

You Can Smell Desperation when...

Republican Fear FactorYou Can Smell Desperation when....
source materials in yellow block are excerpt from: CNN 11/2/08

Just two days before the presidential election, Sarah Palin is highlighting an interview Barack Obama gave to the San Francisco Chronicle in January...

Just now Sarah? Must be one of those things that was just put in front of you to read... maybe you were busy reading EVERYTHING else that was put in front of you... Sarah, Sarah, Sarah...

Audio of Obama’s comments began bubbling up on major conservative blogs over the last 24 hours....

Hmmmm, wonder how that happened. Now them blogger people, they tend to be pretty resourceful dontcha' know... They don't let too much slip by them... hard to believe that they all just now got around to putting this on their blogs.

and Palin wondered why voters were only now hearing about the remarks. The insinuation that the Chronicle had been hiding the coal comments from the public brought about shouts of “Liberal media!” from the crowd.

Ahhhh... the attack Hockey-Moose at her best... Sarah, Sarah, Sarah... honey, you're not on SNL anymore, sit down please... you're beginning to embarrass yourself.

“Why is the audio tape just now surfacing?,”

pssst... Sarah, it's because you just re-released or gave instructions to re-publish... gosh, this stuff doesn't float to the top like some bloated carcass after a mid-winter kill in the tundra dontcha' know.

“This interview was given to San Francisco folks...

You know who you are... them San Francisco Folks... you know, them gays' and things...geeze I can't believe you made me say it

... many, many months ago. You should have known about this,

So Sarah, why didn't you tell them? You've been so quick to tell them everything else that you know absolutely nothing about

... so that you would have better decision-making information as you go into the voting booth.”

Yes, I'm certain that is what you were hoping for, knowledge instead of fear of the irrational... Because we know what type of campaign it is that wants it's base to believe the opponent is an Arab, A Terrorist... or anything else that you think might strike fear into someone and make them vote against the unknown... because the Old, White, unknown is better than... oh whatever that other guy is.... and finally, just to put this all to bed

Contrary to her attempts to portray a media cover-up, audio and video recordings of Obama’s January 17 sit-down with the Chronicle editorial board have been freely available online for more than nine months

So Sarah, please sit down and next time raise your hand if you have a question.

Good night.

McCain Robocalls Arizona

McCain-Robocalls-ArizonaLocal News reports that John McCain's campaign will start employing robocalls in his home state of Arizona. It appears that we have a voice beyond what John McCain assumed we had. We have the ability to think for ourselves, to not vote for someone because he's a homeboy. To make an educated decision, to cipher through the muck, mud, and waddle through the crap and reach a conclusion based on something other than - He's from our State.

source: CNN Political Ticker

are making a late play for Arizona as new polls show home-state Senator John McCain with a shrinking single-digit edge over Barack Obama.

Earlier this week, the campaign and the Republican National Committee paid for negative robocalls in the state, telling voters Obama’s election “invites a major international crisis he will be unprepared to handle alone.

“If win full control of government, they will want to give civil rights to terrorists and talk unconditionally to dictators and state sponsors of terror. and his Democratic allies lack the experience and judgment to lead America,” said the calls.

Okay, Arizona, now let's do what no one thought would happen - turn Arizona Blue on November 4th!

Arizona Voter Dress Code

President-ObamaYou know I've been going on about the Great State of and our Secretary of State, , and yes, I know she's just enforcing the (although, now seems a rather strange time to get all sphincter tight about it) when it comes to what type of clothing, badges, pins, buttons, stickers and the like would be considered "campaigning" in the polling place... And just so everyone has a source to turn to.... ACLU has an excellent resource titled... "What not to wear on election day"..

Gay Marriage? A Look at Proposition 102

Arizona NO on Prop.102As we get closer to in Arizona I am getting inundated by the ads for Prop 102 in .

Family First has put just a ton of money in to this campaign so I feel the need to return the favor in kind. Okay, so I can't put a ton of money in to an Anti-102 campaign, but I can put a ton of time in to voicing my opinion. Ultimately, my fellow Arizonan's, isn't voicing your opinion what voting is all about?

The ads that are currently running show interviews with people on the street. These interviews talk about the simplicity of the Proposition. I agree it is wording is short and simple, wrong, but simple.

The ads ask if the interviewee understands the . One of the ads shows a woman in downtown Phoenix that was asked that question, she replied: "Yes, it's simple to understand. I'm for Marriage." Obviously it's not simple to understand.

The common thread in these ads is: "I'm for marriage, why would I want an attorney to overturn that? I think it needs to be part of our constitution."

This simply slays me.

My arguments against:

1. When dealing with law, legal terms and constitutional issues you must keep these definitions separate from religious terms and definitions. They are not the same. One is based on the rights of people of a land, town, city, county, state, or country. This definition is designed to govern the people as a whole. The other is faith based and defined in accordance with your personal faith and designed to govern a people of a similar faith/belief system.

2. Marriage is currently recognized as being between a man and a woman. If you Vote No on Prop 102 this will NOT change. The LEGAL definition may ultimately (and it should) be ammended to include but, again, the current law does not change. Additionally there is no way, shape or form that voting against Prop. 102 means your for Gay Marriage, not at all. A YES Vote for the Proposition would, however, provide a legal backdrop for discrimination in the state of Arizona.

3. This proposition, attempts to make a religious, faith, personal belief definition an amendment to a constitution. The Nation is based on a system of separation of Church and State, thus insuring our religious freedoms. To pass this Proposition in to law by making it a part of our constitution, would effectively remove this separation.

Ultimately I believe that it could then effectively be argured that the seperation of church (religious beliefs) and state has been breeched resulting in the amendment being overturned. Which, did nothing in the end except cost the taxpayers money.

was voted down the last time it was brought forward, the people of Arizona should feel insulted that it's even on the ballot again.

NO on Proposition 102 in Arizona.

Statistical Tie in Arizona Obama - McCain

Obama-for-ProgressArizona Republicans have been on TV more in the past 24 - 36 hours than they have been in the past 24 - 36 months... and for all the wrong reasons if you're a McCain backer.

The Obama Campaign continues to push it's grass roots movement, out in force on the campus' the Latino communities, the phone-banks and door to door. The drive seems to be working as the evening news on NBC, CBS, ABC and yes, even the local FOX station all reporting that it is a Statistical Dead Heat between OBAMA and McCain.

The Reps, like I said are getting plenty of air time, but they are staying sound in their resolve to "stick to their plan". If only they could have convinced McCain to stick to one of his many plans - maybe they wouldn't be getting air time for all the wrong reasons in his home state.

On Republican spokeswoman - and I apologize I did not catch her name when they air the news (it was a lead in story... caught me by surprise) - stated that she believes that McCain should have visited his home state and campaigned in it at some point. She went on to say, that in her opinion, McCain's neglect of Arizona is what has lead to the current situation in Arizona.

She did stick to the campaign party line by stating that they will not change their tactics during this last week of the election season.

I'd just like to tell her "Thank You, as an Obama supporter I appreciate your inactivity and again, want to thank you for your indirect support of our efforts in Arizona to get Sen. Obama elected President."
