Nadya Suleman... Your 15 Minutes are Up

All the talking heads of the world are bitching and complaining about the OctaMom, , they can't believe that her story is still alive. The mainstream media is outraged (the best they can be) that is still getting attention. Not from them, of course, but from the producers of , the tabloids and all the other rag mags out there.

Today, on the today show made a comment when NBC was running a story about the new supposed million dollar deal that Nadya has made; the comment was something along the lines of "this is a long 15 minutes..." no shit Sherlock but it's long because you clowns keep running her damned story. It doesn't matter if it's about the discussion between her and her mother or the nose job or some of the litter coming home from the hospital... you keep running the story - give it up already. OH! and get this... the lead in question... Is Nadya addicted to pregnancy? WTF!! Who the hell cares! That crap just chaps my backside...

Question for everyone; when was the last time that NBC or any station ran a story on the global issue of clean water, Somalian poverty crisis, , economic impacts to Mexico's border towns and the rise in violence because of it? When? When was the last time that any station ran a story on how unemployment benefits haven't increased in 20 years in some parts of our own country? When? We all hear about the poor rich SOB's but when have we heard about the real issues?

and finally, just a tidbit to chew on: I was talking to a friend of mine that was recently laid off directly because of the economy. He told me that he had received his first benefit deposit... the amount... 240.00 before taxes - 214.00 after!!! WTF!!! are you serious... Look..., not for nothing but 24 years ago when I was discharged from the service I decided to take a month or two off before I went in to the "real" world and I filed for unemployment benefits; guess what my benefit was..... yep $240.00!! I was pissed then, my God, I can't imagine what I would do now trying to live off of a total of 960.00 a month (before taxes) and feed my family, pay my mortgage or even rent for that matter, electric... good God - this is the help that we are given from our Department of Economic Security!! What I really want to know is who's economic security is it anyway...

Nadya... I hope you get your deal - not for your sake but for the sake of your children. I hope that whoever draws up your contract has stipulations dictating that a percentage of your deal goes into a trust fund for your children.

Okay, I'm done... Have a great day!

Guantanamo... Seven Years Too Late

Ettarose, a long time reader of SCREAMING and an avid supporter of the humanitarian efforts and causes in this world recently left a comment regarding my post "Guantanamo Suspended: Thank You Mr. President."

Etta, like many of us, has questions. I wonder if we stop and think could we come up with the answers?

Ettarose wrote:

Hi, my concern is those who are guilty. Where will these prisoners end up? I do NOT agree with the torture of them, but I would like to see justice done swiftly.

If I may....

"... those who are guilty." I would propose that first we get to the point of finding out ARE they guilty?

Now, we may all answer yes but there is a process--DUE PROCESS--that needs to be followed and that many of us have been SCREAMING for it for 7 years. Bush's government chose to detain these suspects and NOT give them their access to DUE PROCESS. In fact the Bush administration chose to hold them hostage (prisoner--enemy combatant--hostage...all about the same in this case), without trial, to suit and fit their own political needs and then when they didn't fit the administrations needs they didn't know what to do with them...

ummm---leave them for the next guy!

Now it's time to give the detainee's (prisoners) their day in court--Military Court.

Ettarose then asks "... where will these prisoners end up?"

I propose JAIL and I'm not trying to be a smart-ass but honestly, we have some of the very best maximum security prisons in the world. We house Manson, Menendez, Dahmler, and a few thousand of the worlds most violent criminals. I'm certain we could house some lowly enemy combatant for the rest of their natural lives. After all, it's not like we're going to give them weapons or anything - lock-down baby, lock-down!... I personally think our prisons are secure enough for these people.

Finally, my friend closes with "... but I would like to see justice done swiftly."

AMEN!

We all would. I'm afraid that as a Nation we have missed that boat. Seven years of detention without the case ever being tried in a Military court, National or International, is anything but swift.

Peace.

National Auto Insurance with every Gallon of Gas

What if you paid for with every gallon of fuel that you bought--a pay-as-you-go/pay-as-you-use system. We would immediately eliminate every uninsured and under insured driver on the road.

The average annual miles driven is someplace between 12 - 15,000. What if you only drove 5,000 and you paid insurance only on the miles driven?

Here is my suggestion: Insurance tax on a per gallon of gas, bio-diesel, diesel or propane. I'm not sure how it would work for Electric or Solar but we have a few years to figure that one out. What happens when you buy a gallon of gas is you are also buying insurance for that amount of driving. If you drive a high MPG car then you get more bang for your buck. If you drive a gas sucking SUV then you'll pay more based on the fact that it will take you more gallons of gas to drive the same distance. If you drive 5,000 miles a year then you'll pay for 5,000 miles of insurance -- if you drive 50,000 miles a year then you'll pay for 50,000.

A driver who spends 8 hours a day on the road should pay more of the cost of insurance than a mom or dad who simply run to the store and to drop-off or pickup kids from a music lesson.

Just a thought.

Children and Guns in Northern Arizona get National Attention

These are Weapons - not Guns - do you know the difference

It's Thursday, so it must be time for a National post. Today in the news we could SCREAM about Madonna's Divorce, the Government's no-deal on the Auto Industry Bailout, US being warned about China's Cyber Syping... Notice that most of my sources are not (and usually never are) US Based... why?

Because the Mainstream Media in this country always presents a myopic view that suits the sales figures for the day ... bunch of lying-half-truth-telling-mamby-pamby-ass-kissing-troglodytes... but I digress ;)

You know, I once saw an interview where a reporter stated that he would rather get the information and agree not to publish it until it was useless than to not get the story at all... what the hell?!? I bet that Nixon was wondering where the hell this clown was when he needed him! Sorry, this is a long way to go to get to today's post (how many to's in that sentence?... is that even legal?!)

Here we go: National attention has been focused on a small town in North Eastern Arizona. A small town in Apache County. A town that is now populated by more satellite trucks, reporters, camera-men/women and signal technicians than it has residents.

Why?

Because a father taught his son to hunt at the age of 6 or 7. Because a father taught his son how to lock-load and fire a weapon with apparently a great deal of speed and accuracy at a very young age. Notice I called it a weapon - not a gun. A gun sounds so passive, so nice and non-threatening. We played with guns when we were little; cowboys and Indians, cops and robbers, we even made our own rubber-band guns.

There is another reason that I've called it a weapon instead of a gun and I'll get that in a moment.

This small Northern Arizona town has been invaded by the worlds Press Corps because an 8 year old boy is accused of shooting and killing his father and his fathers friend. "I think I may have shot the gun." the 8 year old told Police.

I don't know if he did or didn't that will be for the system to find out and then determine how to deal with an 8 year old on such an issue. I do know that it is tragic. Extremely tragic and needless. My heart goes out to that little boy.

Now, let's get back to what's really stuck in my craw... that distinction between a weapon and a gun. A weapon is nasty, it's made to inflict harm and to kill - that's it. That is it's only purpose for existing. That is the goal that is poured in to every aspect of it's design. It's accuracy, velocity, weight, balance and every other aspect are finely tuned to do one thing and one thing only - hit and destroy it's target. Now, a gun, well a gun is a different story.

Here's your education on a gun as provided and paid for by Uncle Sam's U.S. Military Services; each and every one of them teach this: This little lesson has hand and arm movements so you have have to stand up to follow along....

Here is my weapon (hold your rifle/pistol out in front of you or just point to it)
Here is my gun (grab your crotch, set your rifle or pistol down first)
This is for killing (hold your rifle/pistol out in front of you again)
This is for fun (grab your crotch)

and repeat... it helps if someone yells "I CAN'T HEAR YOU" while you're saying this.

Okay, got it? Pretty simple right... So the next time someone asks if you own a gun you can smile and say "why of course - don't you?"

Weapon = Bad
Gun = Fun

Now, go play with your gun and have a good day.

Palin Still The Star and She Just Might be Banking on it

SatTV: Excuse me, Governor Palin...

GP: Yes?

SatTV: How would you describe your recent vacation to the lower 48?

GP: "Let's see, I had a baby, I did some traveling. I very briefly expanded my wardrobe, I made a few speeches, met a few VIPs, including those who really impact society like Tina Fey. Aside from that, it was pretty much same old, same old."

SatTV: May I ask what your plans are for the next four years?

GP: "We want to reach out to the new administration and offer our assistance, our support, offer solutions and I think that we'll be sought by the new administration, by Congress, and we're here to help,"

SatTV: Governor after such a stellar performance during the run for the VP do you really think that you're the one that either Senator McCain or President-elect Obama are going to seek out? Enjoy your 15 minutes of fame, thankfully it is nearly over.

I don't care if you are a Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Anarchist, Atheist, whatever, simply put this country has far better political minds than "That One". Unless she undergoes the speed MBA/PHD course in American and International Politics in the next four years.... This one is done, it's a wrap, the news cycle is over, it's in the can... put her back on the shelf.... yawn.

Tents of Hope

Peace-Tents photo by D. Van Oudenaren, STDarfur activists pitch tents to influence Washington, the following includes excerpts from an article published in the Sudan Tribune, written by Daniel Van Oudenaren.

November 10, 2008 (WASHINGTON) – Activists set up some 350 tents of hope on the national mall in front of the United States Capitol building this weekend, hoping to reenergize the U.S. Darfur movement and influence the president-elect.

It seems that this hope is alive for many of us. The hope that we can energize the efforts of the United States and our President to act on behalf of the people of this region.

Each of the tents was sent by a community somewhere in the United States, representing approximately 350 cities in 48 states.

As the article continues Mr Van Oudenaren goes on to provide expectations of those demonstrating:

.... benchmarks will include whether or not the UNAMID peacekeeping force receives the equipment that it has thus far been denied, such as transport and attack helicopters...

Today in Darfur

"...Nigerian peacekeepers were ambushed in West Darfur, wounding a peacekeeper, and on the same day attackers shot at a humanitarian vehicle, wounding the driver.... the Nigerian Protection Force Company stationed at the Geneina Super Camp in West Darfur was ambushed by a group of unknown men armed with Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs) and AK-47 assault rifles

These are the UNAMID Peacekeeping forces that need the support - this is part of why the Tents of Hope are trying to draw in this nations attention.

...Later in the day a vehicle belonging to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees was attacked in Zalingei, West Darfur...

This crisis will not let up without pressure from the international community. Add your voice, talk about this at home, at your church, in your community, on your blog. Write letters to your government officials, let them know that we must support the efforts and the needs of the UN Peacekeeping forces.

Postcard to President-elect Obama

Save DarfurFellow "SCREAMERS!" now that the election has past and the political feeding frenzy will begin to die down a bit it's time for us to get back to the business at hand.

Saving the world one small scream at a time.

I would like to ask you to join me in signing and sending an electronic postcard to (I love writing that!!) for the Voice for Darfur campaign.

Both candidates pledged "unstinting resolve" in pursuing an end to the Darfur . Now it's time to begin the campaing of urging President-elect Obama to uphold his pledge.

Please join me in signing the post card. You can get to the Postcard by clicking the Save graphic or by clicking here.

President-elect Obama's Record on Darfur:

Obama/Reid Amendment

On Oct. 2, 2006, Sens. Obama (D-IL) and Reid (D-NV) offered a $20 million amendment to H.R. 5631, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act. The amendment allocated funds to support the African Union troops in Darfur.

The African Union is currently the only protection for Darfurians. While it is imperative that a United Nations force take over for the African Union, the latter must be supported in the meantime.

The Obama/Reid amendment provided sorely need funds, but this is just a step. We must add our voices and keep the issues in front of our government. Sign the postcard to let our President know that his voice and that the voice of our country is needed now more than ever.

The World Reacts

President Obama-ProgressWhile we, as Americans, realize the significance of the '08 I wonder do we realize just how important our voices were to the rest of the world? Do we realize what significance that the outcome of this election has had and will have on the world around us?

"Your victory has demonstrated that no person... should not dare to dream of wanting to change the world for a better place." Nelson Mandela, South Africa's first black president, welcomed Mr Obama's victory as a sign of hope for everyone.

Do we realize the opportunity that we, the citizens of the United States, have in front of us?

Kenya has declared Thursday a public holiday to celebrate the election of Barack Obama to the US presidency. Mr Obama's step-grandmother was seen dancing and cheering jubilantly outside her house after the results were declared. Mr Obama's family stayed up all night in the western Kenyan village of Kogelo watching the election count...

African leaders from South Africa to Somalia have sent their congratulations to the US president-elect. European leaders have hailed the triumph of Barack Obama. European leaders have called the victory "brilliant" and it is a "vision for the future". Others in Europe stated the the result was "historic" and called for "a new deal for a new world". Moscow is looking forward to a "fresh approach", and leaders across the Middle East have congratulated Barack Obama. Governments in South Asia have also given warm reactions to President Elect Obama's victory.

It is, however, maybe best stated by Israeli President Shimon Peres in his letter to President Obama:

"Dear Mr President, The world needs a great leader. It is in your making. It is in our prayers. God bless you."

Do we realize the opportunity? Will we seize the opportunity? Now is our time. The years of cowboy politics are behind. The future is progress and progress is good.

Stand strong America and use the voices that we, the people of this great country, have found.

You Can Smell Desperation when...

Republican Fear FactorYou Can Smell Desperation when....
source materials in yellow block are excerpt from: CNN 11/2/08

Just two days before the presidential election, Sarah Palin is highlighting an interview Barack Obama gave to the San Francisco Chronicle in January...

Just now Sarah? Must be one of those things that was just put in front of you to read... maybe you were busy reading EVERYTHING else that was put in front of you... Sarah, Sarah, Sarah...

Audio of Obama’s comments began bubbling up on major conservative blogs over the last 24 hours....

Hmmmm, wonder how that happened. Now them blogger people, they tend to be pretty resourceful dontcha' know... They don't let too much slip by them... hard to believe that they all just now got around to putting this on their blogs.

and Palin wondered why voters were only now hearing about the remarks. The insinuation that the Chronicle had been hiding the coal comments from the public brought about shouts of “Liberal media!” from the crowd.

Ahhhh... the attack Hockey-Moose at her best... Sarah, Sarah, Sarah... honey, you're not on SNL anymore, sit down please... you're beginning to embarrass yourself.

“Why is the audio tape just now surfacing?,”

pssst... Sarah, it's because you just re-released or gave instructions to re-publish... gosh, this stuff doesn't float to the top like some bloated carcass after a mid-winter kill in the tundra dontcha' know.

“This interview was given to San Francisco folks...

You know who you are... them San Francisco Folks... you know, them gays' and things...geeze I can't believe you made me say it

... many, many months ago. You should have known about this,

So Sarah, why didn't you tell them? You've been so quick to tell them everything else that you know absolutely nothing about

... so that you would have better decision-making information as you go into the voting booth.”

Yes, I'm certain that is what you were hoping for, knowledge instead of fear of the irrational... Because we know what type of campaign it is that wants it's base to believe the opponent is an Arab, A Terrorist... or anything else that you think might strike fear into someone and make them vote against the unknown... because the Old, White, unknown is better than... oh whatever that other guy is.... and finally, just to put this all to bed

Contrary to her attempts to portray a media cover-up, audio and video recordings of Obama’s January 17 sit-down with the Chronicle editorial board have been freely available online for more than nine months

So Sarah, please sit down and next time raise your hand if you have a question.

Good night.

OH NO! Where's JOE?

Comically, almost as if a reflection of just how wrong McCain's campaign has been, when McCain went to introduce Joe the Plumber on the campaign trail... there was no Joe. Here's how it was reported by The Associated Press:

He was referring to Mr. Obama's vote for the 2005 energy bill, but his assertion that the Illinois senator backed billions in corporate giveaways for oil companies has been called misleading by fact-checking organizations because it also included tax increases.

In Defiance, Mr. McCain had hoped to make a splash with a living commercial: his first joint campaign appearance with Samuel Wurzelbacher, a.k.a. "Joe the Plumber."

The Ohio resident, who had questioned Mr. Obama's tax plans in a face-to-face encounter with the candidate, has become the centerpiece of Mr. McCain's stump speech and the major theme of his campaign: that Mr. Obama would raise taxes on small businesses, hurting jobs and the economy.

When Mr. McCain introduced Mr. Wurzelbacher, however, there was no Joe.

"Joe, where are you? Is Joe here with us today?" Mr. McCain said. "Joe, I thought you were here today. All right, well, you're all Joe the Plumber."

and to top it all off - With his home state in jeopardy, he's planning on being in on Monday, November 3rd. I would have thought that being in Ohio, Florida or Pennsylvania would have been a better investment of his time. It's Arizona after all, shouldn't he carry his own state?!

(McCain's visit was announced on the Yavapai County party website - The planned location, Prescott, Arizona's territorial capital, occupies a special place in the history of Arizona, and in the Goldwater legend. )

McCain Robocalls Arizona

McCain-Robocalls-ArizonaLocal News reports that John McCain's campaign will start employing robocalls in his home state of Arizona. It appears that we have a voice beyond what John McCain assumed we had. We have the ability to think for ourselves, to not vote for someone because he's a homeboy. To make an educated decision, to cipher through the muck, mud, and waddle through the crap and reach a conclusion based on something other than - He's from our State.

source: CNN Political Ticker

are making a late play for Arizona as new polls show home-state Senator John McCain with a shrinking single-digit edge over Barack Obama.

Earlier this week, the campaign and the Republican National Committee paid for negative robocalls in the state, telling voters Obama’s election “invites a major international crisis he will be unprepared to handle alone.

“If win full control of government, they will want to give civil rights to terrorists and talk unconditionally to dictators and state sponsors of terror. and his Democratic allies lack the experience and judgment to lead America,” said the calls.

Okay, Arizona, now let's do what no one thought would happen - turn Arizona Blue on November 4th!

Joe the Plumber - a Footnote in History

McCains-Plumber photo by: CAROLYN KASTER/The Associated PressAre you kidding me? is schlepping "" around Ohio with him and introducing Joe whatever his last name is as "A Real American Hero"! Again, I have to ask, Are you kidding me! "A Real American Hero?" What? , regardless of if I agree with his race for the presidency or not, is a man of courage, a war hero, a man that I believe loves his country. He's also a man that has clearly lost his mind - for John McCain to call "Joe the Plumber" a "A Real American Hero" shows me just how wrong his campaign has gone.

When all is said and done, will have the memories of being a pawn during a Historic , he will be a footnote in the history books. An oddity of American politics.

I wonder, when Joe's grandchildren ask him about the picture on his wall of him and John McCain (you know one will be there), will he tell them that he voted for ?

Arizona Voter Dress Code

President-ObamaYou know I've been going on about the Great State of and our Secretary of State, , and yes, I know she's just enforcing the (although, now seems a rather strange time to get all sphincter tight about it) when it comes to what type of clothing, badges, pins, buttons, stickers and the like would be considered "campaigning" in the polling place... And my advice was and is just don't. Your vote is too important to wear your pin's or other paraphanalia.

And just so everyone has a source to turn to.... ACLU has an excellent resource titled... "What not to wear on election day"..
